About the Brand
Cutler and Gross – the brand
Cutler and Gross is an exclusive British brand of spectacles and sunglasses that has been a favourite amongst fashion enthusiasts for over 50 years. Since its foundation in London in 1969, the company has been renowned for creating high-quality, on-trend glasses and sunglasses for the sophisticated and style-conscious customer.
Cutler and Gross glasses
Cutler and Gross glasses feature an eccentric style for people who ‘dare to be a little more daring’, where the frame is the icing on the cake. Simply put, they’re not for the faint-hearted. Their unique designs have made them a household name in the fashion world. Each pair of glasses is handmade, a process comprising 48 steps and taking around 12 weeks. The company uses only the finest materials to ensure that every pair of glasses is of the highest quality. Complaints are incredibly rare, and none of the staff could recall a single instance where this had ever happened. That says a lot about the quality, given how many frames leave the shop. In other words, we can wholeheartedly recommend Cutler and Gross glasses.
Cutler and Gross sunglasses
Cutler and Gross sunglasses are manufactured in the same way as their prescription glasses, and the quality is just as high. Another aspect that’s of a very high standard is the lenses in the sunglasses. We have many customers who comment on how pleasant the light is through the sunglasses, and we can’t help but agree. Do try a pair of Cutler and Gross sunglasses – we’re convinced you’ll like them too.
Tinted or coloured lenses?
Several models are available as both prescription glasses and sunglasses. This means many people choose to fit photochromic lenses in their frames. That way, you have prescription glasses for indoors and sunglasses for outdoors when the sun comes out. Fitting lightly tinted lenses also looks brilliant, as many models have a slightly bolder, more distinctive design, which suits them perfectly. We’ve noticed that the trend for tinted lenses has taken the brand to the next level. As we have our own workshop, we can easily help you with lenses ground to your prescription. If you’re thinking about tinted or photochromic lenses, we’d be happy to help you find a stylish shade – we have a wide range to choose from there too.
Do have a look at our post on tinted glasses, where you can see examples of the colours available.
Collaborations
When it comes to collaborations, Cutler and Gross are incredibly talented and have recently launched a highly acclaimed collaboration with the jewellery brand The Great Frog. Many of these limited-edition frames are hard to come by, but if you manage to get your hands on them, they’re absolutely stunning. You can check out the current frames here: Cutler and Gross x The Great Frog.
History
The company’s history dates back to 1969, when Graham Cutler and Tony Gross decided to create their own brand of spectacles and sunglasses. They wanted to offer a product that was unique, distinctive and of the highest quality. By crafting their eyewear by hand, they were able to create a product that was both functional and stylish.
The unique design philosophy established by Cutler and Gross was based on a balance between technical precision and artistic flair. Unlike many other brands, they chose not to feature visible logos on their frames, which meant that the product itself became a style statement. Over the years, the brand has been a favourite on the fashion scene and on the red carpet, and their frames have been spotted on famous faces such as Elton John, David Bowie and Julia Roberts.
An important part of the brand’s DNA is its craftsmanship. All frames are handmade in Italy by skilled artisans using the finest materials. Each pair is unique, with subtle details that turn every product into a work of art.
The company has grown and evolved, but its focus on high-quality, unique glasses has remained the same.
“My idea of design is a bit old-fashioned. It should be practical, functional and then look good – in that order,” Graham Cutler
“It’s nice if glasses can be sexy and mysterious. People who need glasses don’t have to feel cut off from glamour.” Tony Gross

To give you even better protection, we offer one year’s damage insurance when you purchase a complete pair of glasses at the standard price. The insurance covers issues not normally covered by the manufacturer’s warranty or your right to make a complaint, such as in the event of an accident.
Damage insurance
- Valid for 12 months from the date of purchase
- Covers accidental damage, such as if the glasses are dropped on the ground or if you sit on them
