Prescription sports glasses
The difference between ordinary glasses and sports glasses is most noticeable when you’re on the move. A sports frame sits closer to the face, provides a wider field of vision and is designed to stay in place even when the pace picks up. When the lenses are also prescription-ground to suit your eyesight, the overall experience is completely different. You won’t have to strain your eyes and you’ll enjoy a clearer view, even in fast-paced situations.
It’s often only when you try them on that you realise just how big the difference actually is.
Not all sports glasses are suitable for prescription lenses
It’s easy to assume that you can fit prescription lenses into any pair of sports glasses, but that isn’t always the case. Some models are too heavily curved, making it difficult to achieve a good optical solution. In other cases, the lenses simply cannot be replaced because they are an integral part of the design.
That’s why we at Hultins Optik have chosen to focus on a select few models that we know work really well with prescription lenses. This means you don’t have to take a chance; instead, you can choose something that’s been tested and works in practice.
Our selected models for prescription sports glasses
We’ve selected four models that work particularly well with prescription lenses, both in terms of fit and optics.
From Oakley, we have the Flak 2.0, a sports frame used for everything from cycling to padel and running. It stays securely in place even when you’re sweating and is a reliable choice for more active sports.
We also offer the Oakley Holbrook, which has a more classic shape and is more reminiscent of a pair of ordinary glasses. It’s well suited to golf, for example, or other activities where you want functionality but with a more understated look.
From Rudy Project, we have the Rydon, a lightweight and adjustable model designed for movement, with a fit that can be fine-tuned. In addition to this, there’s the Magnus, which has a slightly larger design and offers more coverage, whilst retaining a lightweight and stable feel.
A common feature of all four models is that they work well with prescription lenses and can be adapted to your vision.
Progressive sports glasses – in-store
We are often asked about progressive sports glasses. We do offer these in-store, but the process requires a different approach.
To achieve a result that works in a sports frame, individual measurements and careful fitting are required. It’s not enough simply to provide your prescription, as the curved lens affects how the lenses perform in different parts of your field of vision.
For this reason, we only offer single-vision sports glasses in our online shop. If you’d like progressive lenses, we’d be happy to help you in-store, where we can ensure the result is as good as it should be. We are committed to ensuring that what we supply works in practice. Otherwise, we won’t do it at all.
When are prescription sports glasses suitable?
Prescription sports glasses are widely used in cycling, but work just as well in other activities where vision plays a crucial role.
On a bike, it’s all about reading the terrain and reacting in time. In padel, it’s the pace and the movement of the ball that pose the challenge. In golf, it’s the small details that make the difference. What they all have in common is that you want to be able to rely on your vision without having to think about it.
Ordering prescription sports glasses
Ordering sports glasses online is easy these days, but there are a few things worth knowing. Sports glasses often have curved lenses, which means the lenses need to be fitted correctly to provide clear vision across the entire surface. You won’t notice this when they’re working properly, but it becomes all the more obvious when they aren’t.
In our lens configurator, you enter your prescription details and choose lenses based on how you’ll be using your glasses. For example, you can choose clear lenses for more varied lighting conditions or tinted options for stronger sunlight. If your prescription isn’t listed as a direct option, it’s not unusual for a solution to still be found. In that case, our opticians will assist you and ensure everything is correct from the start.
